Phound Sounds is a podcast featuring Philadelphia area musicians and their original music, the podcast where the theme song changes every episode!

Paul Giess talks to Philadelphia area musicians talk about the stories behind their music.  Hear about their inspirations and music making processes.

Paul Giess decided to self produce this podcast , looking for solutions to help his local music scene connect with audiences to help create an emotional connecting between Philadelphia music lovers and the music made by artists living in the city.

The podcast features music on the podcast as well as conversation with the artists about the music to target listeners who are evolving to prefer podcasts over other listening mediums.

Phound Sounds will release a podcast monthly. The first four featured artists will be Mervin Toussaint, Erica Corbo, Monnette Sudler, and Micah Graves. Scroll down to learn more about each upcoming episode.

Phound Sounds and interested in new funding models for musicians as old income streams increasingly overlook the needs of artists. We will ask for community support on it’s Patreon page to help cover production costs associated with the podcast, but will also aim to gain enough support to give financial support to the artists directly. Episode One

Mervin Toussaint:

Mervin Tuossaint’s bright young voice on the Philadelphia music scene brings a fresh and thoughtful perspective with his debut release “Another Name for Everything”. In Episode One, Mervin and Paul listen to sections of his music throughout the podcast. Along the way discuss his diverse range of influences, his collaborators on and some of his thoughts and emotions behind writing this music.

Episode Two

Erica Corbo

Captain E. Corbo 022487, is a human being hailing from the Earthly metropolis of Philadelphia. Capt. Corbo composes and performs her original music with the aid of Berta, the time machine, and her brave and loyal crew: trusty co-pilot: Pietra Piano, adept maintenance woman: Flora Flute, and Erica’s very own alter ego: Viva Voice. On Episode 2, to be released in the first week of February, Paul and Erica discuss her first album “I, America” some new solo material she has been working on, and a sneak peak at music coming out soon by the Space Whale Orchestra. They also touch on her monthly concert series which she has managed to keep strong through the pandemic, “Warp Factor 9”.

Episode Three

Monnette Sudler

Monnette Sudler brings to her newest release a wealth of wisdom and experiences, included playing with the likes of Byard Lancaster, Kahn Jamal, Grover Washington and Freddie Hubbard. “Stay Strong” Is a musical message about activism, Black Lives Matter and collectively navigating our way through the pandemic. Her music will feature, Chico Freeman, Gerald Veasley, Aaron Graves, Richard Hill, Webb Thomas, Jan Jefferies, Raimundo Santos, Byron Landham, Mariam Suzette Ortiz and Paul Giess. We’ll hear from Monnette about the messages from her music and what’s inspiring her to Stay Strong.

Episode Four

Micah Graves

With his technical prowess at the piano, and his emotive song writing it’s safe to call Micah Graves a young lion seeing as he hasn’t even graduated from Temple yet! Micah’s latest release “Not for the Ordinary: Med Nama” explores love found love lost, and sharing reckless joy with another. We’ll do a deep dive into Micah’s songwriting and might even get a sneak peak to the B side of this release which will be released later this year.
