Paul Giess is a trumpet player, music maker and educator living in Philadelphia. Paul's musical practice is rooted in the jazz tradition, as seen is his debut album "U Suite U", but his taste is adventurous as he looks for ways to bring new perspective to old ideas. Paul shows his commitment to community and music making through his continued dedication to his role as the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Parts and his role making music with people with developmental disabilities at the Center for Creative Works.
When the pandemic hit, Paul Giess turned to daily writing and sharing process to help himself, his friends and family get through each day and begin to cope with our new world. Sharing his music set to video on his social media pages with the text “Good Morning!”, aiming to keep spirits high in his community. Paul received lots of encouragement and appreciation which led him to post new music almost everyday for 2 months. Framed with videos of flowers and Philly streets "Good Morning 2020" Aims to uplift and relax and conveys some of Paul's influences including Jazz, neo-soul, avant pop, electronic and experimental music. Each piece, dated with the day it was posted also represents a musical documentation of a point in time. The music will be released on the winter solstice of 2020, at 7:05 am on December 20th. Just as every morning marks a point in daily cycle of our earths rotation, the solstice marks a point in our cycle around the sun. The timing of the release symbolizes a new morning as days once again start to become longer. A symbol of hope for our future to become brighter in the coming months.
Paul will hold a listening and conversation zoom party at 12:00 pm on December 20th to celebrate the release and the solstice at the follow zoom link :
